Jackie Gallagher
JACKIE GALLAGHER
Jackie has had a lifelong interest in drawing and painting. After a mid-life career change, she set a goal to pursue her art passion with more formal studies in drawing, watercolour and botanical art through the former Springbank Visual Art Centre and the Spillane Studio of Fine Arts in Mississauga, Ontario.
Jackie’s drawings and paintings are quite detailed involving many layers. Although watercolour was her medium of choice initially, she has explored coloured pencil, pen & ink, graphite, and silverpoint. She now works more in coloured pencil yet will mix various media to obtain a desired effect.
Jackie is a member of Botanical Artists of Canada, Mississauga Arts Council, Visual Arts Mississauga, Lakeshore Art Trail (Mississauga) and The Thursday Artists. Jackie is past president of the Botanical Artists of Canada (2015-2018).
Jackie has exhibited within the GTA and south-central Ontario both as an individual artist and a member of The Thursday Artists. Her works can be found in private collections within Canada and the United States.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The beauty of nature and my love of the outdoors stirs my emotions and inspires me. I draw a lot of my inspiration on my walks through various urban and rural settings. I choose subjects to paint by what speaks to me – their simplicity, contours, flow - as well as their imagery and architectural shapes.
Each painting is a creative journey which at times may take me outside my comfort zone yet always provides an enriching experience that leads me inevitably to its intended destination.
