ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a contemporary still life artist and I paint in a classical realist style, using traditional oil. My paintings have been described as minimalist and modern. They often consist of a few objects of intense colour placed against a neutral background. Although my paintings are composed of everyday objects, the subject of my paintings is light. I incorporate different materials and textures (such as cloth, paper, glass, fruit) as subject matter, and play with the source or angle of the light to create dramatic shadows and interesting reflections. Ultimately, my goal is to achieve a result that is visually pleasing, emotionally calming and easy to live with.
