Lynda Flanagan
Acrylic
Lynda Flanagan is an Ontario artist who paints in a contemporary style. Forming connections with nature and developing strong roots with the land are prevalent themes in her work. She conveys the strength and resiliency of the landscape through the use of bold and playful colours, using wide and sweeping brushstrokes to communicate the vastness of the land. Spending vacations and summers in Northern Ontario, hiking and kayaking generated a long-standing love and respect for nature and the land on which we live. Lynda graduated with an Honours Fine Arts degree from McMaster University. She works predominantly in acrylics and has painted using both landscapes and abstract mixed media as starting points for her artwork. Website: lyndaflanaganart.com |
ARTIST STATEMENT
My art springs from connections and joyful interpretations in nature. Inspiration evolves from my belief that we are rooted to the ground, that nature provides us not only with what humans need to survive- but also what humans crave emotionally; connections. A familiar theme in my work comes from feelings that being immersed in nature evokes. The wide, loose brushstrokes use many colours to invite the viewer to feel the wind in their face, the bright palette elicits positivity and energy. The reflections in my water pieces serve a dual purpose, to enjoy nature's beauty, and to encourage personal reflection. I invite the viewer to experience feelings, draw on memories and their own experiences and remember fondly a moment spent in nature. I create to promote connections between ourselves and nature and to highlight the therapeutic properties of exploring what our lands and water can offer.
