ARTIST STATEMENT
After many years of being a watercolour artist where subject matter included traditional landscapes, still life and florals in a very typical representational style, I decided to explore acrylic abstraction. Painting abstractly was a more challenging and complex style but has allowed me to evolve as an artist and create a more personal form of artistic expression. My images explore interpretations of everyday events and are inspired by an internal response to an emotion, a memory or a life experience. My paintings are unique and compelling, some deep and mysterious while others are light and whimsical. I enjoy thinking outside the box and exploring more innovative and unique ways to express my creative spirit. I am very much an intuitive painter, painting from the heart and soul, allowing the image to dictate the direction it chooses to evolve, using multiple layers of acrylic medium infused with a richness in value contrast, embellished with gestural calligraphy and designed to engage the viewer and encourage closer observation and personal interpretation.
